Crochet Clownfish Hat

Crochet Clownfish Hat

My friend's dad sells tropical fish and asked me to come up with a clownfish type hat for little ones.  I have finally added patterns for many different sizes, but feel free to adjust any way you need!  I am trying to remember to add the inches around the head it should fit normal and with stretch, I will add those as I make more hats! This pattern may be messy and has only been tested by me, so if anything is confusing, feel free to ask or help correct my pattern! Thanks, Natasha (mnopxs2).

(The hat in the pictures is 3-6 months)

(The hat in the pictures is Teen/Adult/Womens)

-I used all 4 ply Red Heart Yarn, feel free to use whatever colors you wish, I am just sharing the yarn I used.

Colors:
Pumpkin
White
Black

-Size I-9/5.5mm crochet hook (I use this because I crochet tight) or Size H-8/5mm.  Or Whatever size is needed to get the right gauge.
-Gauge 4 DC = 1 Inch

I have been using Repeat Crafter Me's set up from her owl hats for all my hats lately.  Here is a link to that pattern:

  5. I just made this had last night super cute. I just have one question about the hook size. I was trying to make a toddler/preschool size hat with the I hook like you used but it came out to big. It fits an adult. Did you use the I hook or was that a typo?

  6. I do use the "I" hook, but my crochet is very tight. You can use whichever hook size you like to get the right gauge. The yarn normally says size "H"

  11. Hi there, I've been flying though your pattern, with no problems at all! But then I've got to the tail and I've got myself all confused!! I don't really understand why it's not working so I can only assume I'm doing it wrong! You don't suppose you could draw a diagram or something to show how it works? For example, in the first round, it says: 'Turn' but how do I turn it? There's no turning chain, so I guessed it just meant go back the way I came? Then it says 'Dc in the last three stitches,' does that mean I skip stitches up to the last 3? Sorry if it's obvious and I've got it all mixed up!!! If you have time to help me that would be awesome :D xoxo

    1. Sorry, when it says turn, it really means just work along the backside of the chain, making a ring withbyour double crochets. It may make more sense in my video if you want to try that. Sorry sorry (so work along one side of the chain, 3 dc, 2dc in last chain, then coming back the other way dc in next 3 chs.

  12. Both of these hats are super cute! I'm thinking there may be a descrepency in the side fin directions. I've worked it a few different ways and the stitch count is off each time. I can only get 10 stitches by end 3. I compared it to the Dory side fin pattern and it's very different. Is it me?
Can't wait to finish it. Thanks for sharing! :)

    1. Thank you for letting me know! Row 3 should be ending on 11 sts. 2dc in 2, dc in 2, 2dc in 1, dc in 2, 2dc in 1, dc in 1. (11). That was my fault! I love that you let me know the error. It will be different from Dory fins, as I made them different :) I appreciate the help! Thank you again!
